The Latest Figures

MX Logic says CAN-SPAM compliance doubled last month to an all time high to 4%. Naturally, this is a sort of backhanded compliment. MX Logic also frequently boasts numbers that are the highest spam-to-ham ratios while also promoting numbers which support the negative viewpoints of the CAN-SPAM Act. I personally think MX Logic is using a ‘doom and gloom’ approach to marketing - as if they couldn’t sell their product unless the world of email was in constant and dire danger.
The truth is, and I’ve said this before, there will always be a need to more quickly rid yourself of email you don’t want while keeping the email that you do. CAN-SPAM compliance at 100% won’t change that.
Moving on, it’s also worth a giggle to note that spamming was down last month while hurricanes ripped through Florida. Many of us already know that Florida is a popular place for email advertisers, so it’s no surprise that some of them couldn’t send while storms were raging in the southeast. Link above reads more like an ad, I should warn you.
Bush Not the Cause of Spam

Spamhaus and other antispam organizations are surprised spam isn’t a bigger talking point in the upcoming presidential election. They all have a big beef with Texas and Florida state laws which are highly forgiving in their bankruptcy laws, which allow those who file for bankruptcy to keep a lot of their stuff. This is the reason that an overwhelming majority of email advertisers are based out of Florida, it’s true. But this article goes a bit too far.
Some of the organizations (they don’t make clear who said what) are saying Bush is the reason that the laws are so lax. They’re also saying that changing the laws should be a major talking point for either side. But seeing as these are state laws, isn’t this a state matter? Isn’t it up to the state representatives to change these laws? Isn’t it up to the voters in those states to make these items issues?
I’m in 100% agreement that we need laws that make it unprofitable to illegally email people, but to say it’s the President’s responsibility to change a state’s bankruptcy laws… it’s ridiculous. The Presidency has bigger concerns. Terrorism, genocide, national security, the national economy, unemployment and more spring to mind.
